Harley helps in Haiti

Two wheels are better when roads are destroyed

What’s the best way to get around in an earthquake-torn zone? Travel by motorcycle, of course.

Harley-Davidson has announced that it will donate 28 Buell and Harley motorcycles to the government of Haiti to be used by aid workers in travelling through damaged areas. The Haiti earthquakes have damaged roads there, but in many places a motorcycle can go where larger vehicles cannot.

The bikes will be sent to the Dominican Republic, then given to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.

The motorcycles will stay in Haiti as property of the Haitian government.

  1. The Cynic in me says “write off full value of inventory with a donation”. :sigh Good point about shipping the manufacturing equipment down there. That’s what Haiti needs, a way to help themselves rebuild.

  2. Where to begin indeed. :zzz
    Street Rod? Blast? Vrod?
Maybe they could just make a big pile in the harbor as a break water.

Regardless the funny possibilities it’s still charity and is noble and generous.
Perhaps they should donate the manufacturing equipment from the defunct Buell plant. I’m not sure what they would make,(maybe small cc bikes) but it would go a long way to helping Haiti.
