Harley to be built by Harley

Lehman Trikes is losing a contract with Harley-Davidson for assembly of H-D’s Tri Glide and Street Glide models.

Harley will do its own building, starting this summer. The H-D trikes will be manufactured at the company’s York, Pennsylvania, plant, starting with the 2011 model year.

Harley says it’s doing this because restructuring of the York operations has made building the trikes in-house cheaper.

In what is probably not a related move, Lehman’s chairman of the board has retired. C.L. (Les) Brown was appointed chairman in 2006 and plans to retire for personal reasons. Marc S. Rose has been named his replacement, effective RFN.
