"Honey, we’re goin’ to India. They got Harleys there now!"

Harley-Davidson will export 12 models to India for 2010.

A few bikes from each of the Motor Company’s five model
lines will be sent over at first.

Harley-Davidson India will import two 83 Sportsters, the XL
model and the Roadster, plus two 1200 Sportsters, the Nightster and the XR
1200X; two Dyna models, the Street Bob and the Super Glide Custom; the VRSC
Night Rod Special; two Softails, the Fat Boy and the Heritage Softail Classic;
and three Touring models, the Road King, Street Glide, and Ultra Classic Electra
Glide.

A Fat Boy painted in custom Indian colours will be the first
Harley-Davidson sold in India, unless nobody wants it, of course.

Harleys will be priced similarly to Canadian
prices, but import duties will pretty well double the cost for Indian buyers.

  1. 1,000,000,000 people but only about 10,000 of them could afford to buy an HD.
    This looks more like a desperate bid for attention by a company on the decline. They have a limitted product line and are culturally restricted from expanding it, both by their traditional & potential customers and by their dealers. In short it’s a mess they’ve created over the years by sticking with the same basic designs (for good reasons) and being too affraid or short sighted to suck it up and grow a new brand or diversify their product.

  2. 1,000,000,000 people.
    Expected 10,000,000 annual motorized two-wheeler sales
    Why are they only entering the market now?

    But can HOGS exisit in a country that honours cattle? 😉
