Hall of Fame dinner going west

Next year’s induction banquet for the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame will be held in Vancouver, and the one after that is expected to be in Montreal.

Organizers want the hall of fame to be seen as a national institution, but past banquets have been held in Toronto. Holding an event in Vancouver will encourage western Canadians to feel more involved, they say.

The induction banquet brings about 10 new members into the hall of fame each year, and some of those members are from regions outside of Ontario. But it can be difficult for an inductee from the west coast to travel to Ontario for the induction, says John Cooper, president of the foundation that operates the hall of fame. "In fact, we had one inductee from the west who, while delighted at the selection, was not able to have anyone in attendance to receive and celebrate the recognition," Cooper said.

The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame was founded in 2005 and held its first induction ceremony the following year. This year’s ceremony will take place at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel on Oct. 24.

A specific Vancouver location for next year’s banquet has not yet been selected.
