They reached out, and the peole of Ottawa reached back.

Despite the world’s economic slowdown, people in Ottawa dug even deeper into their pockets for the 10th annual Motorcycle Ride for Dad, which took place on the weekend.

The ride raises money for research into prostate cancer, and is held in cities across Canada through May and June.

The Ottawa event raised $360,000 and attracted 1,780 riders, according to the Ottawa Citizen newspaper.

Last year’s Ottawa ride drew 1,737 riders and raised $320,000.

The national ride captain told the newspaper that the Orillia, Ontario, ride produced a bit less than it has in the past, but the Vancouver Island event produced more, so he said it all "kind of evens out." In Windsor, where the troubled auto industry has threatened to devastate the local economy, $70,000 was raised and 950 motorcyclists took part in the ride.
