According to a doctor at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, motorcycle charity rides like the Ride for Dad can stimulate unusual research that might not otherwise be done.
Dr. Jeremy Squire, a researcher at Queen’s U, told the Exchange business magazine that the Ride for Dad raises money that enables researchers to try "more risky exploratory projects" in their attempts to find treatments for cancer. Some of these projects, he said, might not receive ordinary research funding.
The Ride for Dad is a major, multi-city fundraiser for research into prostate cancer. In Kingston, it takes place on Sunday. CMG’s May and June ride guides have listings for the ride in other cities across Canada.
Squire said he and some other researchers from the university will take part in Sunday’s ride. He also said the Ride for Dad’s participants help to motivate researchers when they hit a snag — their energy and enthusiasm translates into the research lab.
