In a Powersports Business survey, about 85 per cent of responding dealers said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act has hurt their business.
The Act, which came into effect recenty, prohibits the sale of small bikes and ATVs, which contain lead, and could be used by children.
In the Powersports survey, a third of those responding said the law has reduced sales by more than 20 per cent. About as many said their sales were off between 10 and 20 per cent.
So far, there’s no indication that Canadian lawmakers are considering copycat legislation.
