BMW Recall (#2009008)

Models Involved: 2008 F650GS

Number of Vehicles:  288

Problem: On certain motorcycles, the chain sprocket fasteners may become loose which, in the worst case, could cause a loss of vehicle propulsion. Lost propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: Dealers will tighten the sprocket fasteners to specs.

BMW Recall (#2009006)

Models Involved: 2008 F650GS  

Number of Vehicles: 373

Problem: On certain motorcycles, the front brake disc fasteners installed during vehicle assembly may have been of insufficient length. As a result, the fasteners may not have received adequate tightening torque, which could eventually allow the brake disc to loosen. This could result in a loss of front brake function which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: Dealers will replace the front brake disc fasteners.

CMI Recall (#2009008)

Models Involved: 2008 Striker

Number of Vehicles: 200

Problem: On certain Limited Speed Motorcycles, the compliance label incorrectly indicates a manufacturing date of 12/2008 but instead should read 12/2007.

Correction: Dealers will install updated labels.

Kawasaki Recall (#2009012)

Models Involved: 2008-2009 Concours 14 and Concours 14 ABS

Number of Vehicles: 580

Problem: On certain motorcycles, small stones or other road debris can become trapped between the brake pedal and the rear brake master cylinder actuating rod. This can prevent full release of the rear brake. Continuous activation of the rear brake while the vehicle is being operated can result in overheating, damage, rear wheel lockup, or failure of the rear brake, creating the risk of a crash resulting in injury or death.

Correction: Dealers will install a cover on the brake pedal.

KTM Recall (#2009029)

Models Involved: 2009 450 SX, 450 XC, 505 SX, and 525 XC

Number of Vehicles: 427

Problem: On certain motorcycles, the rear brake caliper carrier support could crack and/or the front brake master cylinder plunger (piston) may not return properly. This could lead to a loss of rear brakes and/or front brakes, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death.

Correction: Dealers will install updated rear brake caliper carrier supports and front brake master cylinder plunger return spring.

Suzuki Recall (#2009017)

Models Involved: 2005-2006 GSX-R 1000K5 and GSX-R 1000K6

Number of Vehicles: 1207

Problem: On certain motorcycles, crash forces or hazardous maneuvers such as extreme or extended wheelies or other stunts causing extreme stress to the frame can result in frame cracking or breakage behind and below the steering neck, while ordinary vehicle operation does not create a risk of such frame cracking or breakage. Suzuki believes that this issue does not constitute a "defect" within the meaning of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act because such extreme maneuvers are far outside the ordinary and reasonable operation of the vehicles involved. However, as a precautionary measure for the sake of owners and operators, Suzuki has voluntarily decided to conduct this safety improvement campaign.

Correction: Frame will be inspected for cracks behind and below the steering neck. If no cracks are found, a lightweight, aluminum reinforcement brace will be attached to the frame. Should cracks be found during the inspection, the frame will be replaced with a new frame that has the reinforcement brace installed.

Yamaha Recall (#2009035)

Models Involved: 2006-2009 FJR13A and FJR13AE

Number of Vehicles: 770

Problem: On certain motorcycles, the main ignition switch’s wire connection could overheat, due to electrical resistance, and become hot enough to melt the solder connecting the wire to the main switch. As a result, the wire could come off the switch, preventing the electrical system from functioning. Should this occur while the motorcycle is being ridden, the engine could stall and be impossible to restart. A loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury or death.

Correction: Dealers will replace the ignition switch with an updated version.
