Marco Melandri, like John Hopkins, has been left out to dry by Kawasaki’s quitting the Moto GP circus, but although he’s said he wouldn’t mind taking a year off he’s already lined up a car ride.

This is in the Speedcar series, a NASCAR-style one-make sedan series, using a car designed and built for the series. It’s a very big deal in the mid-and far-east with a lot of former top F-1 and sports-car drivers — Johnny Herbert, Heinz-Harold Frentzen, Jacques Villeneuve, Jean Alesi — taking part in it.

Melandri has arranged a deal with the team of H-H Frentzen, who was a top driver with several Formula 1 teams (Sauber, Williams, Jordan, Prost, Arrows) in the 1990s and early 2000s. He’s due to race at Qatar under the lights this weekend coming.

Series regular Christopher Zoechling said, "Valentino Rossi has already shown that those guys also know how to race a four-wheel vehicle. I am sure Marco will do well, although our cars are pretty hard to handle."
