The Essential Guide to Dual Sport Motorcycling

I hate to admit it, but I’ve been a bit tardy getting new book info up on CMG. Anyway, as the pile o’ books in my in-tray gets to the point of dangerous avalanche conditions, here’s the first of several quick summaries of what’s new and shiny.

You probably all know about Whitehorse Press (motorcycle publisher in New Hampshire) and you may also know that they tend to be quite proactive in publishing very handy “how-to” and travel guides. The latest in the how-to series is concerned with dual-sporting and claims to cover everything you need to buy, ride and enjoy the world’s most versatile motorcycles.

Written by Carl Adams, the Essential Guide is split into four sections: bike selection, setup, riding skills and specialized activities (which covers things such as organized rides, tours and the safest way to explore the more remote areas). It’s also very well illustrated and — as with all Whitehorse Press publications — very well laid out.

If you’re new into dual-sporting, have a dual-sport bike but are not sure how to take it off the pavement and into the world of dirt, or just looking to improve and better explore your off-road experience, then this is a pretty good starting point. And as someone who has become a devotee of dual-sporting since about five years ago, I guarantee that it’s a world well worth visiting.

* Editor ‘arris’ guarantee is not worth the paper it’s printed in. If you print out this page on some very fancy 10c/page paper the guarantee is only worth about 1% of that … which is not even enough to buy a sheet of shitty paper, so we recommend against such activities. Ah yes, recommendations, now they are worth something … blah, blah, blah …

The Essential Guide to Dual Sport Motorcycling costs US$24.95 (plus mailing and taxes) and can be ordered directly from Whitehorse Press though their website.
