Chaz Davies, winner of the 2008 Daytona 200 for the Attack Kawasaki satellite team, has been out of the news for a while, particularly given that his team has been basically folded into the Kawasaki umbrella (now called the Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki team), with riders Roger Lee Hayden and Jamie Hacking.

Davies at the tender age of 21 already has quite a career resume in addition to his Daytona victory. Prior to landing in the U.S. with Celtic Racing and then the Attack team, he had five years in 125 cc and 250 cc GP racing, plus a short stint with the Moto GP Ducati team (one race and a number of testing appearances).

Now he’s signed to race an Aprilia RSV1000R in the AMA Daytona SportBike class.

This class more or less replaces the old Formula Extreme class, slanted toward 600 cc multis modded into mini superbikes, but allowing larger-displacement twins to compete as well.

Davies said, "I am very excited about this new project. I have rode Aprilias in the World Championship and I know what Aprilia can do when they decide to go racing. I had a chance to test the RSV1000R with the KWS Motorsports team last week and I was very impressed."
