We’re not sure why it took Transport Canada so long to issue this latest list of recalls (The BMW recall dates as far back as November 2008!), but at least for reference purposes, here’s the list:
BMW Recall (#2008418) Nov. 19, 2008
Models Involved: 2004-2007 HP2 ENDURO, 2004-2007 R1200GS, 2004-2007 R1200GS ADVENTURE
Number of Vehicles: 1,142
Problem: Certain motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 108 – Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment. The front turn signals were installed in an improper location. As a result, the rider’s intentions to turn may not be conveyed clearly to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury or death.
Correction: Dealers will replace the turn signal base.

Number of Vehicles: 697
Problem: On certain motorcycles, the voltage regulator may fail, causing an expected loss of electrical power. As a result, the engine could stall without warning. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.
Correction: Dealers will replace the voltage regulator and install a heat shield.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON Recall (#2008433) Dec 03, 2008
Models Involved: 2009 FXDB STREET BOB, FXDC DYNA SUPER GLIDE CUSTOM, FXDF FAT BOY, FXDL – DYNA LOW RIDER
Number of vehicles: 33
Problem: On certain motorcycles, the fuel tank vent tube assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly. If the anti-slosh valve separates, and the motorcycle is tipped over, fuel spillage may occur. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Correction: Dealers will replace the vent tube assembly.

TRIUMPH Recall (#2008435) Date: Dec 05, 2008
Models Involved: 2008 Thruxton
Number of vehicles: 4
Problem: On certain motorcycles, two (2) bolts of incorrect length were fitted to the front caliper. Insufficient thread engagement of the bolts could result in an insufficient clamping load on the joint. During routine maintenance of brakes there is a potential for the threads in the caliper be damaged or stripped. If unnoticed and the caliper is refitted, there is a possibility of front caliper coming loose which could result in a crash causing personal injury or death.
Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.
