Steering damper issues.

Company: BMW

Models involved: F800S, F800ST, K1200GT, K1200R, K1200S, R1200R (all 2007 models)

Problem: Coating on inside face of the steering damper housing may come away and clog up the damper.

Consequence: Clogged damper could impede steering damper action and make the bike’s steering stiff resulting in possible crash.

Fix: Dealer will inspect and if necessary, replace the damper.

Check for cracks in the fuel filter shell.

Company: Harley-Davidson

Models involved: FHLT, FLHP, FLHPE, FLHR, FLHRC, FLHRSE4, FLHT, FLHTC, FLHTCU, FLHTCUSE, FLHTP, FLHX, FLTR (all 2008 models)

Problem: Fuel filter shell may crack which could result in loss of fuel pressure.

Consequence: Loss of fuel pressure could cause the bike not to start, stall or poor performance, which could in turn lead to a crash. well, except for the non-starting issue which would more likely lead to pissed offidness than a crash.

Fix: Dealers will replace fuel shell with non-cracking version.

Top box may fall off (not shown or already departed).

Company: Moto Guzzi

Models involved: Norge 1200 (2007 – 2008)

Problem: Mounting bracket for optional top case could fracture causing the top case to fall off.

Consequence: Apart from the obvious chaos that a top case ejected from the back of a motorcycle in heavy traffic could cause, the act of its departure could upset the bike and lead to a crash. It would also likely upset the rider too!

Fix: Dealers will replace the bracket with a stronger one.

Bars may not be clamped properly.

Company: Triumph

Models involved: 1050 Speed Triple (2008)

Problem: Hmhhh, we’re not quite sure of the wording of the release but it sounds like on some models the handlebar clamps may not have been sufficiently tightened at the factory.

Consequence: Bars could slip in the clamps causing loss of control and possible crash (that part’s clear).

Fix: Dealers will fit a pair of correctly machined handlebar risers … which seems to suggest that it’s not a torquing, but manufacturing issue.
