Tomahawk for cheap

Tomahawk knock-off

On this auspicious and lucky day (08-08-08) in Beijing, Olympics fireworks rain from the smoggy skies, but elsewhere in China something "important" is actually happening.

A Chinese company is building a knockoff 10-cylinder, Viper-engined Dodge Tomahawk that willl sell for the emininently reasonable price of $1,400, according to a report in autoblog.com.

Don’t make plans to freak out your neighbours with a tire shredding party in your driveway, however — this one looks good, but under the hood it’s all chop suey.

The Chinese Tomahawk is powered, if we can use that word, by a 150 cc motor, and a CVT transmission from a scooter. It’s also not street legal, which is probably a good thing.

And while the actual Tomahawk is a very large vehicle — containing as it does all 10 cylinders of the Dodge Viper motor — this one looks a bit smaller.

Still, it looks good, and if you’re tempted to throw one in the back of your pickup and go for a tour through the streets of Sturgis next year, who can blame you? No word yet on whether Walmart will stock them in the "Yard and Garden" section.
