The Brands Hatch World Supersport race has ended in tragedy, with the death of Honda rider Craig Jones.

The British rider lost control of his Parkalgar Honda CBR600RR while fighting for the lead in the home-ground race. He fell and was hit by Andrew Pitt, riding a Ten Kate Honda.

Jones received serious head injuries and died after being transferred by air ambulance to Royal London Hospital. He was 23.

Jones was awarded a second place finish in the race.

His crash forced a second red flag for the race, which was won by Jonathan Rea, also on a 600 Honda, just ahead of Jones and Pitt. Rea and Jones had fought valiantly for the lead before the crash.

The race was decided by aggregate lap places.

In the Superbike races, Ryuichi Kiyonari was a double winner aboard a Ten Kate Honda CBR1000RR, followed in race one by Bayliss and Biaggi, and in race two by Haga and Corser.
