For the first time since Atlantic Motorsport Park was built in 1974, the Atlantic Motorcycle Competition Riders Association (AMCRA) won’t be running motorcycle races there. But no fear, there will be a complete race schedule at the Shubenacadie track.
Following an "emergency meeting" in early January, AMCRA said, "After an in-depth review it has been determined that AMCRA will not be conducting business in 2008,” but has "committed to a one-year deal with Atlantic Roadracing League Inc. (ARL) to handle promotion of motorcycle racing activities."
AMCRA has always had cash problems and a relatively low membership from which to draw executives and volunteers, and has done a miraculously effective job with few resources.
Sounds like it finally just got too tight … the website is still up, but even that looks problematical, as the notice says, “The AMCRA Executive will make every (sic) effort to keep this website operating as a common ground for AMCRA members to remain in contact with one another and the Executive.”
The new Atlantic Roadracing League Inc. says it’s “a private company formed by industry and racing professionals to promote motorcycle road racing for Atlantic Canadians now and into the future [and] is focused on the safe, sustainable growth of the sport in Atlantic Canada … operating with the endorsement of the Atlantic Motorcycle Competition Rider’s Association (AMCRA) members, Atlantic Motorsport Park, and Professional Motorsports Productions.”
