A concept superbike and what appears to
be a production supermoto model have been put on display by Aprilia
at the Milan Motorcycle Show.
The FV2 is a radically-designed
high-performance model powered by a 1200 cc, 90-degree V-twin
developed from the 750 cc powerplant of Aprilia’s Shiver.
A carbon
fibre chassis integrates the airbox in its hollow members, and
carbon fibre is also used in the parallelogram-type front suspension,
which is adapted from the company’s 250 GP racer. Dry weight benefits
from the superlight material, at a claimed 160 kg.
Electronics are used extensively,
controlling throttle and traction systems, ABS brakes, and
suspension. The instrument panel can be plugged into a PC for
Internet uploads and will enable GPS, mobile phones, and more.
The SMV750 supermoto takes its chassis and V-twin motor
from an upgraded version of the firm’s Shiver naked bike.
An electronic
throttle, USD Showa forks, radial front brake calipers, wave rotors
front and rear, a new cast-aluminum swingarm, and underseat exhaust
complete the package.
Further details should be released
soon. Neither model is currently scheduled for shipment to Canada, but the possibility exists for 2009, according to our sources.
