Okay, I have to confess, I like the standard/ naked bike. I always have. When I first noticed motorcycles at the late age of 17 my heart always beat faster at the sight of a naked bike over the then revolutionary plastic coated stuff.
Since its introduction in 2001, the V-Rod is arguably the most controversial bike around, especially since it’s a Harley.
CMG has had the BMW F650GS Dakar for half a year, over which time it’s racked up 7,000km and has proven itself to be an excellent road bike and a capable adventure tourer.
Several thoughts bounced through my head as my knee hit the rock at the bottom of the fast flowing river, with the full weight of the BMW Dakar on top of me …
“This is the life!” I pulled over at a viewing point along one of many such points at the side of the canyon roads that carve through the mountains, just outside of L.A. in southern California. The view was fantastic, my adrenal gland empty and the BMW F650CS was purring obediently after some serious riding through the gnarly mountain roads. Life was good. No, life was excellent.
This week we have a write up from temporary Team CMG member Larry Tate, who we managed to get onto a Moto Guzzi V11 for Round three at Shannonville. The Guzzi was courtesy of Pat Doyle at Bavarian Motosports. The idea was to get a viewpoint of the yet unseen other brand eligible in Canadian Thunder.
So this is it – the end of our racing adventure in Canadian Thunder. It was an exciting first year of the new series. Spawned from the old Buell/BMW cup, CMG, Buell and Ducati managed to take the old and make the new Canadian Thunder series.
Having missed the last round of the Canadian Thunder series, I figured I’d better make sure I show for the St Eustache endurance race, and the last race of the season for Team CMG.
It was a simple plan. Go to Vancouver with Mr. Seck for the annual CMG road trip, pick up a couple of BMWs and ride around B.C. for 10 days. Afterwards a direct flight into Montreal on the Saturday would get me there just in time for the final of the Canadian Thunder.
