Indian FTR Rally appears at EICMA

There’s a new version of the FTR1200 naked bike. The new-for-2020 Indian FTR Rally has just debuted at the EICMA show.

The name implies some manner of offroad capability, but despite its dual sport-style riding position, that’s not the FTR Rally’s purpose. Indian’s vice president says the upright riding stance makes it ideal for city streets and canyon roads. Well, that is another benefit of dual sport ergos, and even if the FTR1200 Rally isn’t intended to tackle the dirt with serious intentsions, it should be just as fun on the street. Maybe a lot more fun, even, with 123 hp and 89 lb-ft of torque on tap.

The engine should certainly keep a rider giggling along a back road, but it’s matched by respectable-looking USD forks and radial-mount Brembo brakes up front. Scorpion Rally STR tires are standard, and they look knobby enough to handle some light offroad action, but it’s probably not recommended.

Although Indian isn’t calling this a scrambler, that’s basically what it is, with enough retro touches (that vintage seat, the spoked wheels) to fit into that scene. The standard FTR1200 is more of a muscle bike, so this takes the line in a slightly different direction.

The FTR Rally isn’t on Indian’s Canadian website yet.
