Honda CBR1000RR-R SP: Improving on an improved superbike

Thankfully, this one isn't a tease. Honda's updated CBR litrebike was overdue, but appears to have been worth the wait.

Along with its new CBR1000RR-R unveiled today, Honda also announced an SP version of the bike, with even more performance.

Far as we can tell, the engine and frame are the same on the SP model, but the suspension has been upgraded to 43 mm Ohlins NPX forks and Ohlins TTX36 Smart-EC shock. These are managed by a second-generation Ohlins semi-active electronic suspension control system, with all sorts of adjustability and settings.

The front brakes are also upgraded to Brembo Stylema calipers, with Brembo master cylinder and lever as well. Rear brake is the same as used by the RC213V-S, also a Brembo.

There are most likely other differences between the bikes, but Honda hasn’t told us about them yet, or given us the price difference.
