Problem:Â On certain motorcycles, a clip in the transmission may detach. This could cause the transmission to shift from neutral into gear during engine start-up, or cause the rear wheel to lockup while the motorcycle is being driven.
Correction: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the transmission main shaft.
This is a very serious defect which should cause a ‘stop riding’ order by Transport Canada. Mike Hailwood when interviewed long ago stated unequivocally that his greatest fear in racing was a transmission lockup skidding the rear wheel – he thought that would be beyond his ability to control the bike.
