As spring comes to the continent (despite the snowbomb over some areas in the past couple of days), the racing scene is heating up, and that means Canadians are starting to get busy in MotoAmerica.
First off, it was an absolute bummer of a weekend for Darren James, who’s racing in the Twins series. He’d headed all the way to Road Atlanta and when he got there, his bike wasn’t ready to race in the season-opening doubleheader. After a weekend of non-stop wrenching, he and the Ruthless Racing team couldn’t get the Yamaha to where it needed to be. He didn’t get out on the track in Race 1, and in Race 2, he had a DNF.
However! Things were much better for Alex Dumas. These were the first races in the Twins bracket (he won the Junior Cup series last year). In Race 1, he got a fifth, and in Race 2, he got sixth.
Joshua Thomas was also in the Twins race, his first year in the MotoAmerica pro ranks, and earned 14th in Race 1; mechanical issues forced a DNF for him in the second showdown.
Over in the Supersport class, Braeden Ortt had a DNF in Race 1. In Race 2, he earned eighth aboard his new Kawasaki.
..also Samuel Trepanier (Superbike 12th & 11th) and Michael Leon (Superbike, DNS) were there.
Michael had a tough weekend. Qualified and then crashed on Saturday morning, hurting his pinky finger bad enough that he couldn’t race the rest of the weekend!
