Mad Bastard Scooter Rally registration opens

The tail end of this route was also the setting for the 2013 Mad Bastard Scooter Rally. Was it fun? Look at the photo and make the call ...

It’s March, and that means registration has opened for the 2019 Mad Bastard Scooter Rally.

The 2019 Mad Bastard Scooter Rally will be the final running of this classic Canadian two-wheeled event, as organizers BECO Motors are no longer importing Kymco scooters into Canada.

That means Kymco isn’t the event’s official sponsor, and as we noted the rally’s website said earlier this winter: “The cost of the rally and lack of sponsorship makes it an incredibly costly event and much (scratch that) ALL of the time that we put into the event is completely voluntary.  Putting together this rally is a two year affair, and though it is a labour of love, we have made the difficult decision to forego planning any future rallies at this time.”

So, registration opened late last week, and as usual, those who sign up will get to take part in a 24-hour, 600-km ride through Canadian back roads on step-throughs ranging from lowly 49 cc putt-putts to massive 650 maxi-scoots. Riding a smaller scoot gets you more points, and of course, the more wacky your costume is (don’t forget, you’ve got to ride in costume!), then you’ll earn even more points. Wouldn’t you want to be known as the maddest bastard of all?
