Several websites are displaying what they claim are leaked specifications for the new BMW S1000 RR, with horsepower, wet weight and other juicy details.
The details seem to originate with Belgian site MaxxMoto, which appears to have gotten its hands on some BMW promotional material—or so it claims. The image (seen below), which looks like a scan of a bike brochure, contains lots of details about the new machine.
Most interesting is the claim the new S1000 RR engine will have variable valve timing. That’s not really a surprise, as BMW recently introduced the tech to its R1250 flat twin platform, but if this information is for real, it’s still very interesting to see the technology reappear, as this is probably the future of high-performance motorcycling.
That new Shiftcam technology will allow the liquid-cooled 999 cc inline four to put out 207 hp at 13,500 rpm, supposedly, with 83 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm. Wet weight is said to be 197 kg, so all in all, this ought to be a zippy little package.
According to the allegedly leaked image, the new superbike will come with ABS Pro as standard (BMW’s version of leaning ABS), along with Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race riding modes, Shift Assist Pro, hill start assist, LED lighting and TFT dash.
We can’t say for sure if the information is true, but we have seen enough leaks of BMW’s patent and trademark applications to know there is definitely a new superbike coming soon, most likely revealed at EICMA next week. Then, for sure, we’ll know all the details that matter.
