Racing roundup: Mixed weekend for Canadians in New Jersey

MotoAmerica action in New Jersey over the weekend was pretty soggy on both Saturday and Sunday, and that resulted in setbacks for Canadians Alex Dumas (Junior Cup) and Braeden Ortt (Supersport). Both earned a DNF and otherwise disappointing results. However, in a one-off appearance, CSBK Lightweight Sport Bike champ Jake Leclair did all right in his first event, not so well in his second.

Dumas, who’s been tearing up the Junior Cup standings this season, had a DNF in Race 1 (above), and in Race 2 (below), he only bagged seventh. Leclair was also racing in Junior Cup, and earned eighth in his first race, which isn’t bad when you consider it was his first adventure in MotoAmerica.

However, in Race 2, Leclair only managed 19th.

Ortt also had a DNF in Race 1, and in Race 2, he was 18th.

Dumas now sits with 245 points, nailing down first overall in the Junior Cup, with the nearest competitor 60 points back; with only one race weekend left (Alabama), Dumas wins the series.

Ortt has 104 points in the Supersport series, leaving him in ninth overall, well back of first-place JD Beach with his 348 points.
