Lo and behold, here is the new BMW S1000RR, most likely set to debut at this year’s Intermot show, but maybe at EICMA.
These patent drawings (we saw them on Asphalt & Rubber) show a new engine. From the drawings, you can see the cases have changed, and the insides have supposedly also been overhauled, with A&R sources saying the S1000RR now has a counter-rotating crankshaft and possibly variable valve timing as well.
The engine will also meet new Euro5 emissions regulations, thanks to those engine updates and a refined exhaust. The chassis is also new, as there’s a trellis rear subframe and underbraced swingarm, although the main sections of the frame look to be similar to the outgoing model.
The asymmetrical headlight look that BMW espoused in recent years is also gone, replaced by a more conventional set of squinty-looking beams, similar to what you’d see on other superbikes.
Of course, power output and other numbers will come when the bike is officially unveiled in coming weeks, but until then, you at least know what the machine will look like.
