Racing round-up: Flat track fun, street circuit success, Nitro Harley disappointment

Brodie Buchan was back in action in AMA flat track this weekend, at Weedsport Speedway’s New York Short Track event, and once again, he earned a top-10 finish.

Buchan took his Honda CRF450R to ninth overall in the AFT Singles final (winner was Tanner Dean on a KTM 450 SX-F). He won a heat race at Weedsport, after winning another the previous week at Lima, Ohio. Buchan earned 10 points, leaving him with 25 points so far this season, good enough for 22nd in the standings.

Canada’s roadracers mostly had the weekend off. but Dan Kruger made his return to street circuit racing after a three-year break, and earned an 11th in the IRRC Superbike Final at the Imatra event with the Wepol Racing (affiliated with the Penz13.com team). That’s another solid finish for Kruger, whose career has rebounded significantly this season as he recovers from his serious injuries suffered in the Pan Delta superbike series and Suzuka 8-Hr a couple of years back.

And finally, Alberta’s Mike Scott, former Nitro Harley world champ, had a bit of a disappointing weekend at the NHRA drag races at New England Dragway. Scott was testing a new clutch setup on his bike and ended up spinning the tire in every qualifying run, leaving him out of Sunday’s competition.
