Indian is going to build a street tracker inspired by FTR750 flat track machine. They’re calling it the FTR1200.
The FTR1200 will be based on the allegedly one-off custom that appeared at last year’s EICMA show, as seen in the video above.That machine was based around the liquid-cooled 1133 cc V-twin from the Scout 1200, crammed into a custom-built frame, with Ohlins suspension, S&S pipes and wheels from Roland Sands Design, as well as swingarm, fuel tank and some carbon-fibre bodywork from the FTR750. Basically, it was a melding of the highly trick factory flat tracker with some tasty aftermarket bits and the reliable, street-proven Scout platform.
It’s doubtful the production version will feature the same array of exotic parts, unless Indian wants the bike to carry a hefty price tag. That is indeed the ultimate question: Where will this bike fit in the market? Will it battle it out with Harley-Davidson’s entry-level Sportsters, or the factory custom CVO line? We don’t have an official launch date, so we don’t know for sure when the rest of the details will drop, but we do know Indian is planning to sell this as a 2019 model, so we’d expect that information by end of summer at the latest.
Whatever the price tag is, it’s still possible for you to own this bike, as Indian is promoting it with a contest to win a machine.
