The three-wheeler segment has been growing rapidly in recent years, and the Polaris Slingshot Grand Touring LE is the perfect example of that.
Not only is this another model in a motorcycle category that basically didn’t exist 10 years ago, it’s a much bigger machine than most of the others in this segment. Of the existing three-wheeler market, only Campagna’s made-in-Canada three-wheelers really compare to this in size.
Basically, the Grand Touring LE takes a bunch of optional bits from the standard Slingshot (roof, gullwing doors) and includes them as standard. As well, there are quilted comfort seats, a Rockford Fosgate audio system that’s pair to the vehicle’s infotainment system (with built-in GPS as standard). Polaris also included a backup camera.
The engine is still the same GMÂ Ecotec 2.4 litre motor that’s powered millions of cars globally since the platform was introduced in the 1990s. That’s been the powerplant of choice for the Slingshots since they were first unveiled, and Polaris seems content to let owners work out their own performance enhancements.

I think most motorcyclists are not the target demographic here. Well off baby boomers who want and can afford a cool toy are. I live in Calgary and travel extensively in western Canada and the NW US. Sports cars are a dime a dozen, Slingshots are rare. When one pulled into a gas station in Kelowna, the older couple were rock stars, everyone wanted to talk to them about their vehicle. Viola, is it worth any price. Better cool image toy than any 4 wheel vehicle, hands down. I have seen one pulling a small 2 wheel trailer, so of course you can do road trips if you wish, but most older drivers will just do day trips. I don’t want one now but when I am older, who knows. To each their own, live and let live.
A lot of cars out there for $35,499. I’m sure you could pick up a 2017 MX5 for that price and enjoy windshield wipers and other amenities.
Hard to see how this is a “Grand Touring” version when it has pretty much zero provision for storage. My motorcycle with a single trunk on it has more storage capacity than one of these things, which is pretty sad considering their size.
I’d still like to try one out.
