If you were at the MMIC motorcycle shows last winter, you might remember a booth with a smallish kid who planned on roadracing in Spain last summer. That kid was Jonathan Finn, and he’s headed back to Spain in 2018, advancing up the roadracing ranks.
Finn raced in Spain’s RFME Campeonato de España de Velocidad National GP85/Moto4 in 2017, finishing 11th overall in points. Now, the 14-year-old is headed back to Europe to race in the 2018 RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 Championship, riding for the XCtech Team team again.
The Pre-Moto3 series uses very similar bikes to the Moto3 championship, but with less power and electronics. You can find out more about Finn’s racing efforts at his website, and his full-length press release is below.
Jonathan Finn Advances to the Spanish RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 Championship in 2018
Barcelona, Spain – December 6, 2017 – Canadian Jonathan Finn is thrilled to announce that he has re-signed with the XCtech Team to contest the 2018 RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 Championship.
The 14-year-old from Bushell Park, Saskatchewan recently completed a full season in Spain earning five top-ten finishes and 11th overall in his inaugural RFME Campeonato de España de Velocidad National GP85/Moto4 season.
Finn will be advancing to the RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 Championship in 2018, continuing his pursuit of representing North America and being the first Canadian to compete at this level.
“My first year racing in Spain against some of the best riders in the world was challenging but also very rewarding. I’ve learned a lot and I’m ready to take on this new opportunity in the RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 Championship with the XCtech Team.” said Finn.
The RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 class is considered to be the proving ground for young Grand Prix motorcycle riders to perfect their racecraft before graduating to the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship.
The difference between a Pre-Moto3 motorcycle and a full Moto3 machine is that Pre-Moto3 has limited electronics and restricted power output of the engine.
The RFME CEV Pre-Moto3 Championship visits circuits across Spain with races at famed circuits such as Motorland-Aragon, Barcelona-Catalunya, Jerez and Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia.
Later this year Canadian road racing fans may get to see Finn compete on few home tracks in the Canadian Superbike Championship’s new Light Weight class. Details to be confirmed early in 2018.

Hey perhaps all of us CMG old farts can find it in our hearts and wallets to support a young Canadian trying to make it to the top. For those who don’t already have the Moto GP package, spend 40 bucks and try the off season package. Decades of great races to watch, and a chance to learn from watching the best. I prefer Moto 3, more my speed and far more exciting racing. Give it a try you lot and then support our young lad. Any little bit would help I am sure, racing is an expensive business. Cam
