Ed Krawiec has won the NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle championship on board for the Harley-Davidson factory team.
Krawiec’s bike was based on the Street Rod 750, instead of the old machine derived from the now-discontinued V-Rod. However, considering his teammate was Andrew Hines, we’d suggest the machine’s success is mostly due to extensive remanufacturing by Vance & Hines. That’s not to take away from Harley-Davidson’s win, as nobody in Pro Stock is racing stock machines, but this bike is very, very far removed from the Street Rod you see on the showroom floor. So far removed, in fact, that you probably won’t ever see many of the go-fast parts available on the aftermarket.
It’s Krawiec’s fourth Pro Stock title. The season wrapped up at Ponoma on the weekend, with teammate Hines beating Krawiec and taking the Pro Stock win, but Krawiec was able to earn enough points in qualifying to wrap up the title.
That leaves Krawiec with seven wins this season. He went on a huge winning streak at the end of the season, and with his four Pro Stock titles and Hines’s five titles, plus having the legendary Vance & Hines team behind them (three-time Pro Stock champ Matt Hines is the crew chief), it’s hard to see this team not repeating in 2018.
H-D is the only ‘factory’ team in NHRA ProStock racing, albeit (as you mentioned) a 99.9% Vance and Hines effort.
