Yamaha MT-09 SP confirmed

Just as predicted, Yamaha introduced the MT-09 SP to the European market today, but sadly, we doubt we’ll see it in Canada soon.

The MT-09 is already a very competent naked bike, with plenty of fans falling in love with that three-cylinder motor. The machine has sold very well in developed markets. However, there was still room for improvement over the base model (particularly in the suspension department), so Yamaha has taken the naked bike and added a few upgrades, calling it the SP edition.

Most importantly, there’s a new Ohlins rear shock, and front forks with compression and damping adjustment. Yamaha also tweaked the electronics package, including a quickshifter as standard on the bike. There’s also an assist/slipper clutch.

Yamaha also brought out shiny new paint options for the MT-09 SP, trick LCD gauges, LED lighting, and other aesthetic touches.

Want to get your hands on one? Talk to your local dealer; if enough people ask, Yamaha might be persuaded to bring it in.

  1. Get the MT09 SP in Canada already cause its a no brainer that the non SP is No competition to some other bikes like the Triumph Street R and the Ducati Monster. Both bikes have what the MT 09 does not. See ya Yamaha… You’re out of the running.
