Halifax city politicos want loud pipe laws

The reality is that a loud exhaust might actually raise your level of danger, by submitting you to noise fatigue.

City councilors in Halifax, Nova Scotia, are asking the provincial government to bring in loud pipe laws.

According to CBC, city councilors are getting complaints from their constituents about noisy bikes, saying motorcycles are keeping people awake. And, as is usually the case in Canadian provinces, the police can’t do much about it. The Halifax municipal police can’t lay charges under the city’s noise bylaw, since it doesn’t apply to vehicles. And, the provincial legislation surrounding loud pipes makes it hard to make charges stick, due to wording.

So, the city’s politicians are asking the provincial government to bring in laws that specifically allow police to target loud pipes, or allow the city to make its own laws on the subject. These laws won’t come in overnight—CBC says it could take two years.

  1. I like motorcycle that have a nice loud Exhaust pipe but i think that making a law about how loud a bike have to be is a good tought. I`m from Germany and we have stricted laws about how loud a bike is. If you have a motorcycle you have to have a DB-eater (silencer) in your exhaust that makes your bike sounding not as loud as it could be, if you havent it in your motorcycle the police can stop you and can give you a ticket and also say that you not allowed to ride your bike further as long if you have your silencer in it.
So i think a bike can be loud but riding around a bike with a very loud exhaust or straight piped should maybe banned.

    Seriously ?
    Why not ?

  3. Loud Pipes Lose Rights. Sorry to all the loud pipe lovers, but it’s true.

People are going to pressure their politicians to make laws to get rid of things they don’t like. They don’t like noisy motorcycles. So if you don’t want the popo stopping you, fining you or confiscating your ride, put a quiet or OEM pipe on it NOW.
