The man who stole more than $100,000 from the Canadian arm of the Christian Motorcycle Association has been given jail time, and been ordered to pay restitution.
We first mentioned this story last winter. The accused man (53-year-old Kenneth Van Someren) worked for the CMA (one of Canada’s larger non-profit motorcyclists’ organizations) as an office administrator from September, 2013, to June, 2015. The investigation into the missing funds started in 2016 after CMA noticed there were issues in the organization’s finances, and was conducted by the RCMP and FINTRAC.
The money was stolen through a combination of e-transfers, forged cheques, and unauthorized use of a CMA credit card.
Earlier this week, Van Someren pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000 and was sentenced to 15 months in jail. The judge also ordered him to pay back the CMAÂ $101,287.10 in restitution.
