The University of Sherbrooke has once again won eMotoRacing’s Varsity Challenge.
We first mentioned the Varsity Challenge last month, when we told you about a couple of Canadian roadracing teams headed to the event—the Sherbrooke team, and a team from the University of Calgary.
The event is held at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and pits electric motorcycle race teams against each other in a weekend of racing. It’s aimed at providing a place for university-based teams to compete, but some non-university teams also run at the event, as it’s integrated into the AHRMA’s eSuperSport class racing in New Jersey.
This was the fourth year of the Varsity Challenge, and the competition included a racer with Isle of Man TT experience (Karl Smolinski, riding for the Rochester Institute of Technology).
The University of Sherbrooke’s bike has a chassis designed and built by students; Samuel Proulx rode it to the win in both the Saturday and Sunday races. In Saturday, a non-university rider took first overall, and Proulx took second, but was the first-place student rider. On Sunday, Proulx took the overall victory. The team takes home a scholarship from Woodcraft Technologies as a result of the win.
