Emissions documents tip new Ducati 1260 Multistrada

Documents from the California Air Resource Board show a new Ducati Multistrada coming, with a bigger engine than the outgoing 1200 model.

A couple US mags showed the document Tuesday (we saw it on Asphalt & Rubber), which says there’s a new Multistrada coming, labeled the Multistrada 1260. The CARB document indicates three versions of the bike coming, a standard Multistrada, a Pikes Peak version, and an S version which likely has higher-spec suspension and braking components.

Presumably, the 1260 label indicates a larger engine than the current 1,198 cc powerplant, with 158 hp.

Right now, the Multistrada lineup is the strongest it’s been since the bike was first introduced in 2003 as the Multistrada 1000. There’s the 950 version, and five variations of the 1200 platform. It’s unclear if one or two of those 1200 models will continue when the new 1260 debuts (perhaps the Enduro and Enduro Pro models—it’s hard to see Ducati ditching the Enduro Pro model so quickly after its debut).

We’d expect to see the new 1260 on this fall’s show circuit, with spy shots mysteriously being released in the preceding weeks.
