Canadian roadracer Jonathan Finn has been toiling in the Spanish CEV championship this year, with respectable results so far.
The 13-year-old Finn has been riding for the XCTech team this year, as part of the RFME Campeonato de Espana de Velocidad Challenge 85 class. Despite his age, Finn has lots of experience racing mini bikes; he’s earned four national championships in Canada on mini machines (including 2015 Canadian Motorcycle Associatio National Championship, Western Canadian Mini Road Racing Championship, and Honda Canada Grom Prix). He’s raced MiniGP in Europe as a wildcard entry in the past, and last year, he raced in Italy’s Dodici Polici Italian Cup, ending in 10th spot out of 22 riders. This year, he’s taking on the CEV circuit full-time.
So far, Finn has earned a couple top-10 finishes at the CEV double round in Alcarrà s, and earned an 11th at last week’s Circuit de Navarra. Those finishes aren’t signs that Finn is the next Canadian international roadracing star, but they do show he can handle himself on the Euro tracks.  The next step after the GP85 series is the CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship, and that’s Finn’s goal—he wants to be the first Canadian rider there. After CEV Moto3, the next step is (potentially) the big Moto3 show. There’s no guarantee Finn will ever make it that far, but for now, he’s the only Canadian on that path.
