Here’s what it takes to set a lap record at Pikes Peak

Earlier this week, we told you about Chris Fillmore’s record-setting lap at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. Now, you can get a first-person view of what it took to set that record.

Fillmore’s an accomplished roadracer (with stints in the MotoAmerica and AMA pro ranks), but this was his first outing at Pikes Peak, as the video’s interview points out. It helped that he was able to take part in the new Race Smart training program that introduces new riders to the mountain, as the video shows there can be very serious consequences for screwing up at Pikes Peak. Nobody wants to crash, but it’s worse when your run-off is a cliff with a steep drop-off.
