This coming Monday (June 19th) is Ride to Work Day.
Ride To Work Day is the brainchild of Andy Goldfine, a.k.a. the man behind Aerostich. Goldfine loves to promote motorcycles as practical transportation, which is why Ride To Work Day matters; it’s his way of encouraging motorcyclists to take their bike to work, showing the rest of the world that motorcycles and scooters are great for commuters.
As the Ride To Work Day website puts it:
Ride your motorcycle or scooter on this day to demonstrate:
- The number of motorcyclists to the general public and to politicians.
- That motorcyclists are from all occupations and all walks of life.
- That motorcyclists can reduce traffic and parking congestion in large cities.
- That motorcycles are for transportation as well as recreation.
- That motorcycling is a social good.
Organizers say as many as a million motorcyclist take part in Ride To Work Day in the US, as opposed to a normal number of approximately 200,000 motorcycles being used as commuter vehicles in that country.
This is the 26th year for Ride To Work Day. It’s a bit late for this year’s event, but if you want to get ready for next year, you can purchase some Ride To Work merchandise (including a handy parking spot stencil—be careful!) at the Aerostich website.
