Danny Kent, the 2015 Moto3 champ, has returned to the series after leaving Moto2 after the race at Circuit of the Americas.
Kent was considered to be on the next members of the MotoGP alien class after his 2015 win, but struggled to find the same results in Moto2 when he moved up to the Kiefer team. After earning three points in the first two races this year, Kent didn’t race for Kiefer at COTA, and announced he was leaving the team. Kent might be out of Moto2 now, but he’s not out of work. Yesterday, he announced he is returning to Moto3, working as a test rider for KTM. He’s working with the Red Bull KTM Ajo Team team at the Jerez round, and entering as a wild card alongside existing team members Niccolo Antonelli and Bo Bendsneyder. Is this really just a thinly disguised job interview, to see if Kent still has what it takes to survive in top-level roadracing? Probably, and KTM’s not out much money if the whole experiment is a bust. But if it’s successfull, the Ajo team might find it has acquired great talent at a bargain price.
