The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (CMDRA) has announced its new Open 8.88 class, running this summer.
The Open 8.88 class is (as the name suggests) open to any motorcycle, as long as it’s capable of running an 8.88-second quarter mile and meets technical requirements.
Given the wide spread of machines that run in CMDRA (Sportsters, Big Twins, V-Rods, Japanese hyperbikes, etc., ranging from street-legal trim to purpose-built dragsters), this series should give CMDRA’s serious competitors a chance to face off in a way that wasn’t possible before.

CMDRA announces new class for 2017
The 2017 season of the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association will feature the addition of an Open 8.88 Index class. This new class will be open to any motorcycle that meets the technical requirements of an existing CMDRA class and is capable of running with an 8.88 index.
As CMDRA Executive Director Ashley Rose explains this new class has been added in response to racer feedback. “During the last couple of seasons an increasing number of our members have expressed a desire to race against bikes from other classes. The addition of this open index class will create a situation where motorcycles of various styles can compete against one another. It promises to be very exciting and we are looking forward to some great racing action from this new class.”
The Open 8.88 Index class will be run at each of the races on the CMDRA 2017 National Point Series schedule starting with the Season Opener on June 24th and 25th at the MHDRA Drag Strip in Medicine Hat Alberta.
