Husqvarna posts huge growth numbers again in 2016

With its new place under the KTM umbrella, Husqvarna is continuing to see huge sales growth, with 2016’s numbers improving on 2015’s big growth spurt.

According to a press release Husqvarna shot out yesterday, the company sold 30,700 motorcycles globally in 2016, up 43 per cent from 2015 (which was itself a great year, up 32 per cent from 2014).

The Husky press release did not say which percentage of those bikes were street-legal models, and which were dirt-only. Being the nosy individuals that we are, we’d love to know those percentages, but as of time of publication, we’re still in the dark.

However, regardless of where Husqvarna’s growth came, the fact is, the company seems to be rebounding nicely after a couple years of uncertainty. Over the long run, acquisition by KTM may prove to be the best thing that ever happened to the brand. This year, along with new off-roaders, Husqvarna will start producing its Vitpilen and Svartpilen street bikes, complimenting its existing 701 platform. But the focus is still on producing competent dirt bikes, which is where the previous owner (BMW) sort of fell flat. Instead of a massive restructure, which is where BMW seemed to be aiming things (towards a street-heavy product line), KTM is building off Husqvarna’s historic strengths, and introducing new concepts just a little at a time.
