The Honda CBR650 has gotten a few upgrades for 2017, with tweaks to engine, bodywork, and suspension.
Tweaks to intake and exhaust systems mean the 650’s output now puts out just under 90 hp, up about five ponies, with supposedly more mid-range punch.
The forks have been swapped for Showa units, with that dual-bending valve technology that’s become so popular with this year’s models. This is an affordable way for manufacturers to emulate cartridge fork technology while keeping price down.
Brakes have been upgraded, with dual-piston and 320 mm discs in front, and the fairings have been redesigned to optimize airflow and supposedly add a sportier flair.
The CB650F — the naked version of the faired CBR650 — also gets the same engine and suspension upgrades (with shorter gearing for quicker acceleration), as well as updated bodywork. The riding position has also changed slightly, with the pilot sitting further forward now.
The CB650F makes more sense in Canada but they imported the CBR650F. Sales likely weren’t great. The CBR just costs a fortune to insure.
