After introducing new T120 models last year (liquid-cooled 1200 cc parallel twins), Triumph followed up by bringing out a new line of 900 cc models at Intermot today.
The new T100 lineup is similar to last year’s releases, but the bikes are lighter, have different chassis geometry, and single front brakes. Not only does that drop the weight, it should also drop the price.
There are three models in the lineup: The T100 Bonneville, the T100 Black, and the Street Cup (more on that elsewhere). The Bonneville model has traditional Brit bike styling, with lots of shiny bits, peashooter exhausts, flashy paint, and spoked wheels. The T100 Black is, as the name suggests, blacked-out, most likely coming in at a lower price. It still offers plenty of vintage swag, though, with rubber knee pads, spoked wheels and fork gaiters — touches that haven’t always made it to Triumph’s budget model.
There’s also a version of the Black with slightly different colouring (brown seat and other touches).
Despite the vintage looks, these bikes are as up-to-date as the rest of the Triumph lineup, with ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, ABS, and other benefits of modern motorcycling — no crotchety carbs or Lucas headlights to deal with.
The engines themselves have 10,000-km service intervals
Canadian pricing started at $10,400 for the T100 Black, and $10,700 for the Bonneville T100 for the 2016 models, so estimate 2017’s pricing from those numbers.
