Crash interrupts Guy Martin land speed attempt

British roadracer and all-around speed freak Guy Martin had his land speed record attempt interrupted by a crash.

Martin crashed his Triumph Infor Rocket streamliner Sunday after losing the bike’s back end on a patch of wet salt. He was uninjured, but as a result of the crash, his team has to inspect his motorcycle for damage. That means Martin’s plans to become the new world speed champion (beating the old outright speed record of 606 km/h) is on hold.

Martin’s response after the crash: “It’s all part of the job boy, isn’t it?  … I guess if it was an easy thing to do everyone would have done it by now. So we’ll get a plan sorted and get on with the next go at it as soon as we get the chance.”

The Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner is powered by a pair of turbocharged Rocket III engines, and has a carbon Kevlar monocoque chassis. Martin’s team has already set the record for world’s fastest Triumph, but they’re going for the overall record this fall, if conditions will allow.
