Recall #: 2016417
Models Involved: 2014-2015 BMW R Nine T
Number of Vehicles: 174
Problem: Certain motorcycles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 – Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. These motorcycles may have been built with rear turn signals that do not meet the lens area visibility requirements of the standard.
Correction: Dealers will replace the rear turn signal lamps with units that have longer arms.
They should have a look at Suzuki signal lights as well. They haven’t put reflectors behind the bulbs in years. They have all the intensity of a Bic lighter at a Deadhead concert. Embarassing.
This has to do with Ministry standards for turn signal width and location, nothing more.
Just take a look at all the sportbikes with their butt ugly tail lamp/ turn signal placements, they are put there because the guv wants it, not the manufacturers or the consumers.
I spent 4 days once doing nothing but taking the lids off UTV cratess, sticking on reflectors and putting bilingual owners manuals in the glove boxes. Why ? Because the MOT said so….
That would be Transport Canada, not MOT.
You are correct sir, I made a mistake. Its the Feds, not the Province that sets the standards.
