Guy Martin, Triumph, to attempt world speed record in September

Earlier this month, Guy Martin managed to break the record for world’s fastest Triumph motorcycle, but not the outright speed record. Now, his team has announced they’ll try for that record in mid-September.

Martin is piloting the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner at the Bonneville Salt Flats this summer; he’s already hit 441.3 km/h in the twin-engined motorcycle, the fastest speed ever for a Triumph (and that’s saying something, as the company has a long history of setting and breaking speed records).

However, during his visit in early August, he was unable to break the world land speed record for a motorcycle — the team figured the salt conditions were not optimal at that time. When you’re aiming to travel at the kind of speeds Martin is aiming for, everything has to be perfect.

As a result, he’s headed back next month, trying to top that 606.1 km/h mark — that’s when the FIM course manager expects the salt conditions to be best. Will he actually be able to do it? Martin’s proved himself to his team, it seems — his manager says he’s adapted to the streamliner very quickly. Now he just has to prove his capabilities to the rest of the world.
