MotoPunch: A new twist on a station wagon classic

Most people know what the Punch Buggy game is: See a VW Beetle, give your buddy a jab to the arm. It’s been keeping kids in minivans, and station wagons before them, entertained for decades. Now an Ontario man has a new twist on the game he hopes will save lives.

The Windsor Star says a local man has started a campaign called Motopunch, where you slug your friend if you see a motorcycle, instead of a VW Beetle (or wood-panel station wagon, or car with a headlight out — the game has plenty of variations).

According to the Star, Coty Aubin launched the campaign after one of his friends was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash. He hopes the game will be a fun reminder to people to keep an eye out for bikes.

To promote his twist on the classic game, Aubin launched a new Facebook page and has designed T-shirts and stickers he’s selling to spread his message: Watch out for motorcyclists. He’s also traveling to local events to get people on board with his campaign, but we hope he isn’t planning on heading to Port Dover’s Friday the 13th next time they run one. With that many bikes in town, there could be some pretty bruised biceps if people all started playing Motopunch.
