Motorcycle + moose = near escape

File this one away as another entry in the “Why you should always wear a helmet camera” category.

This footage (we got it off CBC) shows Newfoundlander Adam Cahill’s near miss with a moose. His reaction? Instead of pulling over to the side of the road, quivering and checking for skid marks, he giggles like a madman, happy to be alive.

Afterwards, he told CBC that “It’s pretty wild. I tell ya, I go out moose-hunting or anything like that and I won’t see a frigging thing.” Maybe he needs to confine his riding to moose season to stay safe? On second thought, his luck seems to be holding up just fine as is …

  1. I don’t know what was so funny about the moose nearly taking him out. Last week, I had a deer run across my path from right to left. I had just turned into a setting sun high on my right (tinted visor) and was ramping back up to the 80km/h limit. It was surreal, because I really didn’t see anything until it was right in front of me. I braked and missed his/her hind hoof by inches. I’d just come down #35 from Algonquin and considered myself away from most “animal danger” being as far south as #48. Weird thing was, I never had an adrenalin rush after; but I certainly didn’t laugh it off like this guy. I kept an eye out after that (unexpected moos sighting at the side of the road just an hour earlier, but she was pretty relaxed).

    Why?

So buddy is riding along, sees a moose coming, doesn’t touch the brakes but swerves within his lane (thankfully as there is a car coming) then hoots & hollers like a twit.

Helmet camera? NOT A SNOWBALLS CHANCE IN HELL, for me. If you want one, go ahead.
