Report: Harley-Davidson bringing back the Sport Glide

With a great financial report, it's all blue skies for Harley-Davidson so far in 2012.

The keen-eyed spies at Motorcycle.com have uncovered documents indicating Harley-Davidson is planning to bring back the Sport Glide.

The Sport Glide was an entry in Harley-Davidson’s FXR lineup, designed to compete with the Japanese sport-touring machines of the day (the Sport Glide was released in 1983). If you want some interesting background on that platform, check out this piece here. Fun fact: Apparently, this was one of the projects Erik Buell worked on during his early days at Harley-Davidson. Fun Fact 2: Apparently, the original Sport Glide was actually designed with a liquid-cooled powerplant in mind, which never happened.

Anyway, the trademark applications unearthed by Motorcycle.com show Harley-Davidson wants to retain the rights to the Sport Glide name, but that’s all we know. There’s no indication as to a release date, engine size, or anything else, but we’re sure that will all leak eventually.
